National Book Trust, India, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India was established on 1st August 1957 with a mandate to create book mindedness and a culture of reading in the society. NBT is the largest multi-lingual publishing house in the country, publishing books in over 30 languages—the 18 scheduled languages as well as many minor languages including Himachali, Bhojpuri, Kokborok, Khasi, Garo, Lepcha, Bhutia, Mizo, Ao Naga among others. NBT’s publishing programme covers a wide a range of topics, from works of fiction to social sciences, arts, biographies, autobiographies, science and technology and children’s books. As part of its promotional activities NBT organizes book fairs throughout the country at district, regional and national level. To make books accessible further to readers in remote villages and small towns the Trust introduced mobile book exhibition vans that took books to readers living in these areas. To promote Indian books abroad, NBT participates in major International Book Fairs including Frankfurt International Book Fair, Sharjah Book Fair, Beijing International Book Fair, Bologna International Children’s Book Fair. The Trust participates with a display of select recent publications from India.As part of its programme to integrate Indian book market with the global market, the National Book Trust, India has been organising the New Delhi World Book Fair after every two year since 1972. Over the last forty years NDWBF has become the biggest and most prestigious publishing event in the Afro-Asian region with more than 1,000 prominent publishers from India and abroad participating in the Fair. From 2013 onwards, NDWBF will become an annual event.

Raza Foundation is a private non-profit trust founded by the great Indian painter, Sayed Hasan Raza with eminent Hindi writer Ashok Vajpeyi Raza and Arun Vadehra (of Vadehra Art Gallery) as other founding trustees. Later,painters Akhilesh and Manish Pushkale, Kathak dancer Prerana Shrimali and poet, art critic and curator, Ranjit Hoskote also joined the Foundation as trustees.  The Foundation has been supporting a lot of activities, projects and publications relating to not only visual arts but also to poetry, music and dance. In the beginning the Foundation gave two awards annually, one in visual arts and one in poetry. Later the scheme expanded to cover classical music and classical dance also. Each award carries a sum of Rs. one lakh and a citation. Apart from that the Foundation, over the years, has contributed towards publication of catalogues by young artists; intellectual and creative encounters; publication of English translations of contemporary Indian poetry; celebrations of birth centenaries of two major Hindi poets, Agyeya and Shamsher Bahadur Singh; and has been involved with BAR 1 Bangalore for a workshop in new media, with the Kritya International Poetry Festival, Thiruvananthapuram, and other such events. Since 2009 the Foundation has been organizing a week-long interactive camp at Anandgram, New Delhi, featuring around fifteen of the Raza Foundation awardees. The annual event allows practitioners of visual arts, music, dance and poetry to share ideas, visions, anxieties, etc., and to develop a deeper understanding of arts other than one’s own. Also, instead of its usual awards, the Foundation proposes to offer Raza Fellowships to young scholars, critics, etc., in the fields of visual arts, poetry, music and dance.


Sahitya Kala Parishad, the Cultural wing of the Govt. of NCT of Delhi for music, dance, drama & fine arts which has been engaged in the task of nurturing and fostering these arts and creating a cultural and artistic awareness in the Capital ever since its inception in 1968. It was registered under the Society’s Registration Act, 1860 on July 31st, 1975. The Parishad has been pursuing multifarious activities in order to enrich the cultural ethos of the Capital and inculcate an artistic awareness amongst people of Delhi through its various schemes and programmes. With the establishment of Language Academies, the main thrust of the Parishad is performing, visual and plastic arts.
